Every Modernica solid wood piece is handcrafted in our Los Angeles factory from hardwoods selected for their natural beauty, character, and enduring performance. Maple and walnut anchor our indoor collection, the former prized for its fine, even grain and natural brightness, the latter for its rich, deep color and timeless sophistication.
For outdoor designs, we work with sapele, redwood, acacia, and teak. Sapele brings a striking ribbon-like grain and exceptional durability. Redwood is naturally resistant to moisture and decay, with a warmth that weathers beautifully. Acacia is among the densest of the group, with bold grain patterns unique to each piece. Teak is prized for its natural oils, dimensional stability, and longevity.
Beyond craftsmanship, Modernica exclusively uses FSC-certified wood, the mark of responsible forestry. Certification by the Forest Stewardship Council ensures full traceability from forest to finished product, guaranteeing that materials are sourced from forests managed to protect biodiversity, preserve natural ecosystems, and support the communities that depend on them. It is a choice that promotes fair labor practices, environmental stewardship, and the long-term health of the land our materials come from.
