Beyond The Streets
..What began as Roger Gastman’s vision, is now an urban art lover’s oasis in a warehouse in Chinatown, near downtown Los Angeles. We took a proper tour this past weekend and we’re excited to share part of what we saw. The exhibit spans over 40,000 square feet, it is comprised of paintings, photography, sculptures, and large scale installations by over 100 international graffiti and street artists. A “Gangsta Garden” at the entrance by Ron Finley is the first interactive installation that you will see, complete with fruit trees and lush greenery. As you enter the exhibition, you’re welcomed by a piece by artists Retna, one of Los Angeles’s most recognizable street artists, whose iconic typography work can be found all over the city. Retna’s piece extends from the walls on to the floor and covers a Case Study® fiberglass shell chair. Keep in mind, that photography is encouraged at this exhibition and you will find benches and chairs throughout from Modernica’s line of furniture, inviting you to take part in the artwork.
As you work your way through the exhibition, you’ll find pieces by artists that we’ve had the pleasure of working with on collaboration pieces such as Shepard Fairey, Takashi Murakami, Dabs Myla, and Cleon Peterson. A replica of the iconic Venice Pavilion landmark awaits at the end of the exhibition, with a gift shop filled with limited edition pieces.
