Historic Spotlight:
Building the Stahl House

Craig Ellwood told them the lot would be impossible to build on.

When Buck and Carlotta Stahl stared up at a picturesque Los Angeles ridge, they never thought they’d be able to make it into their dream home. Even after Craig Ellwood told them the lot was impossible to build on, the couple kept on trying until they found the perfect architect to build the perfect house – Pierre Koenig.

Buck even built the foundation himself out of discarded concrete debris to show how it could be done. When the couple told Koenig that they wanted an all-glass 360º panoramic view of the valley below, he designed a home that would give them just that. The rest is history.
