The Case Study Shelving Unit
was created for a competition held in 1948 sponsored by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design was motivated by the urgent need in the Post-war period for low-cost housing and furnishing design adaptable to small housing units. The concept behind the products was that mass-produced, standardized parts could be combined in different ways to meet the unique needs of each customer. Ironically, the units were originally only available in standardized assembled configurations. For the past 18 years Modernica has built the Case Study Shelving Units for clients worldwide.
